Four Hilltopper Wrestlers Crowned Champions, WLU Dominates Fairmont State Open

Fairmont, W.Va. — West Liberty University's wrestling team showcased its dominance at the Fairmont State Open on Saturday, with four wrestlers earning individual championships and the Hilltoppers taking the team title. West Liberty scored an impressive 170.5 points, finishing 74.5 points ahead of runner-up Apprentice.

Leading the charge was Ty McGeary, the nation's top-ranked wrestler at 184 lbs. McGeary secured his title with two commanding technical fall victories.

At 133 lbs., James Armstrong Jr. clinched first place with a hard-fought 3-2 victory in the finals. Treygen Morin contributed to the team's depth, earning third in the same weight class.

The 165-lb. division was dominated by Alec Cook, who powered through the bracket with a fall, a technical fall, and a major decision before claiming a 5-1 victory in the finals. Teammate Levi Abbott finished sixth in the division.

The Hilltoppers made a clean sweep at 174 lbs., with Oliver Byerly taking first place, Toby Abbott securing second, and Breagan Pearson rounding out the top three.

Several other Hilltoppers also turned in strong performances:

West Liberty now turns its attention to the prestigious NWCA National Duals, set to take place January 10-11 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
