WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's soccer team hits the road again tomorrow, heading to Callaghan Stadium in Athens, West Virginia. The match against the Concord University Mountain Lions is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 p.m.

• Head Coach Sean Regan enters his 6th season at the helm of the Hilltopper men's soccer program

• Coach Regan enters his 16th season overall as a college Head Coach 

• West Liberty was picked fourth in the Mountain East Conference Men's Soccer Preseason Poll 

• The Hilltoppers 2023 MEC postseason run came to a close in quarterfinal play against the Senators during the 2023 season.. 

• Sophomore forward Zachary Forehard drove home the first goal of the season for the Black and Gold in the season opener at Ohio Dominican 

• The Hilltoppers fell to the Senators at home in their Mountain East Conference opener this past sunday, 2-1 

• The Senators got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the the 35th minute of the first-half 

• West Liberty answered with a goal of their own in the 54th minute 

• Zachary Forehand delivered an on-target pass to junior Alex Watt who drove home the goal to tie things up, 1-1 

• The suspensefulness continued through the remainder of the second-half up until Davis and Elkins netted the game winner in the 89th minute  

CONCORD STORYLINES:

• The Mountain Lions were picked 3rd in the MEC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll 

• Concord finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 8-5-7 and 4-3-7 in league play 

• Head Coach Alex Smith is in his second season at the helm of the Mountain Lions program

• Concord opened up the 2024 regular season with a victory over Point Park, 2-1 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 

• Mountain Lions Syrus Conolly and Malher Santi Possu drove home first-half  goals for Concord in their season opening victory over Point Park 

SERIES HISTORY:

Concord topped West Liberty during their last matchup during the 2023 season. Concord won, 1-0 that day in Beckley, West Virginia. The Hilltoppers hold the all-time series lead, 6-2-1. Tomorrow's match falls on the five anniversary of the first ever match up played between the Mountain Lions and Hilltoppers. Concord won the match 1-0 on September 11, 2019. The Hilltoppers were winners in the next six contests over the Mountain Lions (2019-2022)

The Hilltoppers are back on the road over the weekend. This time with a trip to Bridgeport, West Virginia for a matchup against Salem University. Kickoff between the Hilltoppers and Tigers is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Bridgeport Sports Complex.
