Bridgeport, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced the 2024 selections of the baseball all-conference teams on Tuesday afternoon, as a pair of West Liberty University student-athletes garnered recognition from the league. Highlighting the accolades for the Hilltoppers was
James Salvatori who was named to the All-MEC First Team while
Trevor Thomas collected an All-MEC Honorable Mention honor.
Earning a spot on the All-MEC First Team as an outfielder, Salvatori collected his first career all-conference accolade. The junior from Wheeling, West Virginia, made 44 starts and appearances while recording a .355 batting average, a .409 on-base percentage, a .748 slugging percentage, and a 1.157 on-base plus slugging percentage. He totaled 55 hits, ten doubles, six triples, 13 homeruns, 47 RBI, and 37 runs scored. He notched 20 multi-hit games this year, including a season-high of four in a game at California (PA). The 2-time MEC Player of the Week (March 11 and 25) also claimed one NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week award on March 12. He tied the West Liberty single-season triples, homeruns, and RBI records, while also ranking first, fourth, and seventh in the conference respectively. Nationally in NCAA Division II he ranked 11
th in triples and 33
rd in slugging percentage. Â
Earning an All-MEC Honorable Mention selection as a shortstop, Thomas collected his first career all-conference accolade. The junior from Wheeling, West Virginia, appeared and started in all 50 games this season while recording a .259 batting average, a .305 on-base percentage, a .500 slugging percentage, and an .805 on-base plus slugging percentage. He totaled 41 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, seven homeruns, 38 RBI, and 26 runs scored. He notched nine multi-hit games this year, including a season-high of three in a regionally-ranked home win over Salem. While he helped turn 20 double plays in the field, he recorded 59 putouts with 112 assists and 12 errors for a fielding percentage of .934.
