HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Fairmont State struck first with one run in the top of the first off an RBI single to right center and tacked on another in the top of the second as an error allowed for the runner to cross the plate after stealing third, making it a 2-0 ball game.
- A 2-out double to left center by Kieran Johnson and a single through the left side by Avery Becker gave West Liberty runners at the corners, however a groundout back to the pitcher ended the frame.
- After Ashlyn Tapman and the Hilltopper defense held the Falcons 3-up, 3-down in the top of the fourth, they were able to strike again in the fifth, as they scored a run off a fielder's choice and a single through the left side to make it a 4-0 contest.
- Jaden Conrad knocked a double to right field to leadoff the bottom of the sixth and Sara Simon singled through the left side to give WLU runners at the corners with no outs. After FSU forced a strikeout and a pop up to second base, Simon stole second to make it two runners in scoring position, however the Black & Gold were unable to push a run across the plate as the frame came to a close with a fly out to center field.
- A pair of 2-out singles through the left side and a hit by pitch allowed for Fairmont State to load the bases, but Simon was able to place the tag on a runner between second and third to end the frame on a fielder's choice.
