West Liberty, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's basketball team returns to action Wednesday as they visit West Virginia Wesleyan in a Mountain East Conference matchup.
The Hilltoppers improved to 3-4 overall on the young season with an 88-76 win over Salem last Tuesday in that game junior guard Bailee Smith hit for 33 points including a career-high eight three pointers. Smith was recognized on Monday as the conference co-player of the week for her performance. Smith is currently the fifth leading scorer in the MEC at 16.4 ppg. Karli Anker is second on the team and seventh in the conference at 15.3 ppg.
The Wesleyan women are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the MEC and they have also won three in a row including wins over Fairmont State and Frostburg State. The Bobcats have the top scoring defense in the MEC allowing only 63.5 ppg. and they out rebound their opponents by 8.5 rpg. Sydney Baird is Wesleyan's leading scorer and she's fourth in the conference at 16.8 ppg.
This game will feature seven of the top 13 leading scorers in the Mountain East.
The Bobcats won both meetings last season, before that the Toppers had won ten in a row and lead the all-time series 26-8.
