West Liberty, W.Va. - The West Liberty University football team picked up their first win of the season Saturday at West Family Stadium 31-10 over Concord. The Hilltoppers scored on their opening drive when quarterback Levi Gullion ran in from two yards out. The Toppers would get the ball back thanks to an interception from DJ Johnson and they turned it into points. Gullion would hit Hunter Patterson for a 13-yard touchdown and a 14-0 Toppers lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Hilltopper defense would come up with another big play on an interception from Andrew King. A Hunter Patterson two-yard run would put West Liberty up 21-0. A Josh Hutley 38-yard field goal would get Concord on the scoreboard before the half for a 21-3 lead.
In the third quarter a punt block by Delano Marcelus would lead to a 40 yard field goal from Tyler Waddell for a 24-3 Toppers advantage. In the fourth quarter AJ Barmer would run in from two yards and West Liberty increased their lead to 31-3. With the win West Liberty improves to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the Mountain East Conference. Concord drops to 0-5 and 0-3 in the MEC.
