West Liberty, W.Va. – With both teams riding momentum from season opening victories, Wednesday's match was neck-and-neck from the opening kick-off and resulted in a 2-2 draw between West Liberty and Concord. After surrendering their first goal of the season in the opening minutes, the Hilltoppers responded with two first half goals to lead at the break. HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After seeing the ball get kicked around between players, Fabian Amhof gained control of the loose ball inside the box and fired a shot towards the goal, deflecting off the hands of WLU's Noah Underwood and into the net for a 1-0 Concord lead in the 3rd minute.
  • Five minutes later Linus Ebert was able to draw a Mountain Lion foul in the penalty box, setting up Mark Donnelly for his first goal of the season as he placed the penalty kick into the top right corner of the net to tie the match at one in the 8th minute.
  • After scoring his first career goal in an upset of Davis & Elkins this past weekend, freshman Zachary Forehand netted his second goal of the season to give West Liberty the lead before halftime. Ebert started the scoring opportunity by intercepting a CU pass near midfield and quickly found Oskar Voges running down the middle of the field, open between two defenders. Voges dribbled around one defender and fired a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and back to Forehand who headed the ball into the open net, while Concord's Keegan Grant was still out of position after facing the first shot attempt.
  • The Hilltoppers maintained a 2-1 lead throughout the majority of the second half, however the Mountain Lions struck in the closing minutes to tie the game at two and force the draw. A diving save by Underwood knocked the ball away to set up a corner kick opportunity for CU, leading to Kai Forsyth heading in the pass from Tomas Kelly to even the game up.
  • West Liberty held the narrow edge in shots (18-17) and corner kicks (10-9), while Concord held the advantage in shots-on-goal (9-8).
