West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team secured their fourth sweep of the season, downing Fairmont State in straight sets on Friday night. The Hilltoppers won by set scores of 25-20, 26-24, and 25-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kills by Leah Driscoll and Liv McAtee to go along with a Bella Dart service ace helped West Liberty jump out to a 4-0 lead in the match. After Fairmont State was able to draw within two points at 8-6, the Hilltoppers went on a 9-3 scoring run to extend their lead to eight points. A 7-2 scoring run by the Falcons cut the lead back down to two points at 21-19, but a kill by Driscoll put away set one with a score of 25-20.
- The teams traded the first nine points of set two back and forth, but WLU used a 6-0 scoring run midway through the frame to grab the momentum and a five point advantage. Fairmont State continued to battle with a 6-2 scoring run and a 5-1 rally to cut the Hilltopper lead to 22-21. A kill by Katelynn Fritz and a FSU attack error clinched the second frame 26-24.
- The teams once again traded the first six points of set three, however a pair of service aces by Fritz and a Page Gross kill sparked a 5-0 scoring run to jump out to an 8-3 advantage. A 6-2 Fairmont State scoring run tied the frame back up at 13 midway through the set, but the Black & Gold once again had a response with a 4-1 scoring run with four kills. A service error by FSU clinched the match for WLU at 25-22 in set three.
- West Liberty held the advantage in the match with a .141 attack percentage, compared to only .056 by Fairmont State. The Hilltoppers also held the edge in points (48-45), kills (37-31), aces (6-4), and assists (34-30). The Falcons held the 10-5 advantage in blocks while the teams were even with 58 digs apiece.
