West Liberty Drops Match to No. 15 Charleston

Charleston, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team was unable to fend off a high-powered attack from No. 15 Charleston on Wednesday evening, falling 4-0 in the match. The Hilltoppers fell behind early in the first half, trailing 3-0 at the break and were only able to tally a pair of shots in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charleston found the back of the net three times in the opening half, first by Juliette Lucas in the 22nd minute, next by Frankie Morrow in the 36th minute, and then Cassidy Collins in the 41st minute.
  • Mia Zecca tallied West Liberty's first shot attempt of the game following a takeaway from a UC defender, placing a long shot on target towards the left side of the net in the 48th minute. Amelia Compston recorded the second and final shot attempt of the match for the Hilltoppers, also putting the shot on target towards the bottom center of the net from just inside the left side of the box in the 70th minute.
  • Morrow notched her second goal of the game in the 71st minute to make it a 4-0 lead for the Golden Eagles.
  • Wickert posted a season-high of 11 saves in the match, marking the second time this year and third time in her career that she has reached double-digit saves.
  • Charleston held the advantage in the match in shots (28-2), shots-on-goal (15-2), and corner kicks (8-3), while West Liberty held the edge in saves (11-2).
