Hilltoppers Rally for Comeback Win at Frostburg State

Frostburg, Md. – For the first time this season the West Liberty University men's soccer team completed a come from behind win after trailing at the halftime break, scoring a pair of second half goals to down Frostburg State 2-1 at Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday evening. The win improves the Hilltoppers to 3-0 in road matches this season, eclipsing the mark for most wins away from the hilltop in a season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Frostburg State put the first goal of the night on the scoreboard in the 39th minute as Anthony Ibarra collected a deflected pass from Laki Psallidas and quickly fired a shot into the top left corner of the net to put the Bobcats up 1-0 entering the halftime break.
  • Only three minutes removed from the intermission, West Liberty knotted the game at one goal apiece in the 49th minute. Jasper Newton started the scoring opportunity by intercepting a long cross field pass by FSU, he proceeded to attack the goal and draw the Frostburg goalkeeper over to the left post before finding a charging Oskar Voges in front of the net for his first goal of the season.
  • The Black & Gold took the lead in the 68th minute of the match off a corner kick set as Vitor Otsuka found Jan Goebel who headed in his first career goal for the game-winner.
  • Noah Underwood made two of his four saves in the final 20 minutes of action to fend off the Bobcat attack and secure MEC win number two for the Hilltoppers.
  • West Liberty held the advantage in shots (13-10) and shots-on-goal (7-6), while the teams were even in both corner kicks (4-4) and saves (5-5).
