Elkins, W.Va. – Entering Saturday night the West Liberty men's soccer team had never beaten a top-25 opponent and they had never beaten Davis & Elkins, by the end of the night the program could check off both with a 4-0 shutout victory over No. 12 Davis & Elkins. The Hilltoppers were in control from the start as they more than doubled the Senators in shots and shots-on-goal in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vitor Otsuka, West Liberty's point leader a year ago, was the first Hilltopper to score in the new season as he put a shot into the bottom right corner of the net off an assist from Tim Stickland in the 21st minute.
- The second half scoring for WLU started in the 60th minute as Otsuka beat the D&E goalkeeper to the ball in the open field and was able to turn the corner and find Stickland standing in front of the open net for the goal to push the lead to 2-0.
- Otsuka collected his second assist of the game as he fired a cross-field pass to Zachary Forehand who then found the top right corner of the goal from the left side of the box.
- Federico Murrau made it four Hilltoppers to find the back of the net on the opening night of the season, as he fought off a Senator defender for a downfield pass from Jan Goebel and proceeded to place the ball over the goalkeeper into the top left corner of goal.
- The trio of Stickland, Forehand, and Murrau all scored their first career goals in the Black & Gold.
- West Liberty held the advantage in shots (11-5) and shots-on-goal (8-3), while Davis & Elkins held the edge in corner kicks (4-3).
