BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team received the No. 4 seed in the North Division and will open the 2023 Mountain East Conference Tournament at noon on Friday against Charleston, the No. 1 seed from the South Division, at the Botetourt Softball Complex in Troutville, Va.
The league office announced the tournament seeds and opening-round pairings for the eight-team double-elimination event late Sunday night.
Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased online here: MEC Tournament Tickets. All-Session passes are priced at $25 while single-day tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 11-18. Children ages 10 and under are admitted free.
Friday's other noon game sends Notre Dame, the No. 2 seed in the North, against Davis & Elkins, the No. 3 seed from the South. The two losers of the noon games return to the Complex at 5 p.m. for an elimination game with the two winners also meeting at 5 p.m. in a winners' bracket contest.
The remaining four teams begin their tournament run at 2:30 p.m. West Virginia Wesleyan, the No. 2 seed from the South, takes on Frostburg State, the No. 3 seed from the North, in one matchup. On the other diamond, Fairmont State, the North Division's No. 1 seed, takes the field against Glenville State, the No. 4 seed from the South.
The winners and losers from the 2:30 p.m. games move on to elimination and winners' bracket games at 7:30 p.m. The tournament is scheduled to run through Sunday.
