WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball swept a Mountain East Conference North Division doubleheader from Alderson Broaddus here Thursday at the WLU Softball Complex.

    Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (14-36, 10-20) rallied to a 6-4 win in the first game before handing the Battlers (17-35, 8-22) an 8-1 loss in the finale.

    In the opener, West Liberty scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 4-2 deficit and secure the win. After Sydney Johnson tripled home the two tying runs, Riley Conkle and Sidney Little followed with RBI singles to put the game on ice.

    Ashlyn Tapman went the distance in the circle to pick up the win, striking out 5 and walking 3 while giving up only one earned run. Tapman also helped her own cause at the plate with three singles.

    Johnson had a double to go along with her sixth-inning triple while Little also doubled and Conkle finished with two singles in the 13-hit attack. Mallory Rosnick contributed an RBI single and Sara Simon had a double.

    West Liberty wasted little time taking control of the second game, scoring five times in the bottom of the second and cruising the rest of the way.

    Anna Welsh and Avery Becker each had two-run singles while Conkle doubled and winning pitcher Leah Alford chipped in with a single and an RBI.
