WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to Davis & Elkins here Saturday at the WLU Softball Complex.

    The visiting Senators (21-21, 15-9) hung a 4-0 shutout on Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (12-30, 8-14) in the first game and rallied for an 8-5 win in the finale to complete the sweep.

    In the opener, West Liberty couldn't break through against Davis & Elkins ace Alexa Uphold, who held WLU to just two hits in firing a complete-game shutout. Riley Conkle doubled to break up the no-hitter in the fourth inning and added a leadoff single in the seventh to account for both West Liberty hits.

    In the second game, the Senators got a two-run homer in the top of the sixth and tacked on a pair of insurance tallies in the seventh to earn the come-from-behind win.

    Mallory Rosnick had a two-run circuit blast for WLU, Jaden Conrad singled and added a solo homer while Anna Welsh chipped in with a pair of singles for the Black and Gold.

    The Hilltoppers will look to rebound on Sunday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan in another MEC twinbill. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at the WLU Softball Complex.
