HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The West Liberty University women's tennis team finished its spring break trip to Hilton Head on Thursday. The Hilltoppers went 2-2 on the week with wins on Sunday (4-3 over Chowan) and Monday (7-0 over Clarion) before dropping the final two matches on Wednesday (0-7 to Lewis) and Thursday (2-5 to Saginaw Valley State).
Match 1: WLU (4) - Chowan (3)

West Liberty started the week with a narrow win over Chowan (4-3). The Hilltoppers took the doubles point by winning spots #1 and #2.
Emma Arnal and
Gemma Cliffe led things off with a 6-3 victory, then
Evelina Martirosyan and
Ishika Agarwal secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot.
Arnal (6-1, 6-1) and Martirosyan (6-2, 6-1) rolled to sweeps in the first two singles matches, before Chowan made it interesting. The Hawks won the #3 and #5 positions in tiebreak fashion and added as weep at #6 to make it 3-3.
Nathalia Valencia gave the Black and Gold the match-clinching win with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at #4.
Match 2: Clarion (0) - WLU (7)

West Liberty dominated Clarion winning all three doubles matches, as well as all six singles competitions.

Nathalia Valencia, Pena-Aceve, and Agarwal all double bageled their opposition (6-0, 6-0) in the singles portion of the match.
Martirosyan and Benyon surrendered just one set in their singles matches winning 6-0, 6-1.
The Hilltoppers won 90 of the 97 sets in the match.
Match 3: Lewis (7) - WLU (0)

After a day off, West Liberty struggled against Lewis dropping all nine matchups throughout doubles and singles.
Evelina Martirosyan and
Gemma Cliffe both forced a third set in their singles matches, at #2 and #3 respectively, but came up short.
Match 4: Saginaw Valley State (5) - WLU (2)

West Liberty took the #1 doubles spot with a 6-4 victory by
Emma Arnal and
Gemma Cliffe, but Saginaw Valley State was able to bounce back with wins at #2 and #3 to take the doubles point.
Arnal got the Hilltoppers on the scoreboard with three-set win at #1. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Arnal flipped the score in set two and then battled out a 10-8 tiebreak victory to clinch the win in the top spot.
Natalia Valencia picked up the other point for West Liberty at the #3 singles position. Set one went to 16 tiebreak points and Valencia pulled out the 7-6 (9-7) victory. Her opponent came back with a 6-3 win in set two. Then, Valencia earned the match with a 10-6 third set triumph.
