WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Mountain East Conference play on Thursday with an impressive 7-0 shutout victory at Fairmont State.
Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (9-3, 4-0) were in control throughout against the host Falcons (8-3, 0-1). The Black and Gold swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and kept right on rolling through singles play.
Gemma Cliffe and Emma Arnal got things started with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Evelina Martirosyan and Ishika Agarwal teamed up for a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot and the No. 3 doubles pairing of Nathalia Valencia and Jacqueline Pena-Aceves wrapped up doubles play with a 6-4 win.

Martirosyan, Arnal, Valencia and Pena-Aceves all posted straight-set wins in singles play. Cliffe rebounded from a second-set loss in her No. 3 singles match to pull out a 10-8 nod in the tiebreaker. Agarwal lost the first set at No. 6 singles by a 6-1 count but stormed back for a 7-5 win in the second set and claimed a 10-5 win in the tiebreaker to finish off the sweep.
Weather permitting, the Hilltoppers are scheduled to host NCAA Division I St. Francis (Pa.) in a 1 p.m. match on Saturday at Washington (Pa.) Park.
