WHEELING, W.Va. – Perennial NCAA Division III women's tennis power Carnegie Mellon handed West Liberty a 5-2 loss here Saturday night inside the Wheeling Park Tennis "Bubble."
The Tartans (14-3), ranked No. 11 in the latest NCAA Division II poll, took an early 1-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Evelina Martirosyan got Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (8-3) on the board with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles but CMU took straight-set decisions at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 spots to put the match out of reach.
Jacqueline Pena-Aceves picked up the other point for the Hilltoppers with a three-set win at No. 5 singles.
The West Liberty women return to Mountain East Conference action on Thursday with a 3 p.m. match at Fairmont State.
