Women’s Basketball Win Streak Snapped by No. 5 Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's basketball team had its four-game win streak snapped Wednesday night suffering an 86-61 defeat on the road at No. 5 Glenville State.

The Pioneers (21-2, 15-2) took the lead in the first quarter, after the Hilltoppers (14-9, 12-5) scored the first four points of the game, and never looked back. Glenville State increased their lead each quarter leading by six at the end of one, 10 at the half, 18 after three frames, and ultimately winning by 25.

Arriana Manzay posted a double-double for the Hilltoppers scoring 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting along with a game-high 14 rebounds.

Karly McCutcheon scored 15 points, while Sonia Sarda and Corinne Thomas had 10 apiece. Thomas drained two of the Black and Gold's three made triples in the game. WLU was held off the scoreboard from beyond the arc in the first half, before netting three in the final 20 minutes.

It was the first time this season West Liberty was outshot from beyond the arc, as GSU made eight three pointers. The Black and Gold ended the night shooting 49% overall versus Glenville State's 42.3%, but the disadvantage beyond the arc proved to be too much.

The turnover bug bit the Hilltoppers coughing up 28 turnovers, which were converted into 21 Pioneer points.

West Liberty shot 8-for-9 at the free throw line, all nine attempts came in the second quarter.

While the total rebounding numbers were even, Glenville State pulled in 15 offensive boards compared to five by WLU, as the Pioneers scored 11 second chance points to West Liberty's four.

The 25-point loss is the largest final deficit in a conference game this season for the Black and Gold.

Glenville State's Mickayla Perdue and Breanna Campbell netted 30 and 28 points, respectively, as the only two Pioneers in double digits accounting for 67% of the teams points.

West Liberty will be back home on Saturday hosting Concord for a 2 pm tip off inside the ASRC.
