WHEELING, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's tennis team rolled past visiting Davis & Elkins, 7-0, in its home opener on Wednesday afternoon inside the Wheeling Park Bubble.
The Hilltoppers improve to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference action. All four wins have come by scores of 7-0.
West Liberty dominated doubles action outscoring the Senators 12-1 in the two contested matches.
Emma Arnal and
Gemma Cliffe shutout their opponents in the number one position, then
Evelina Martirosyan and
Jaqueline Pena-Aceves earned a 6-1 victory in doubles #2.
In singles, WLU posted shutouts in six of the eight sets. Martirosyan took the #1 singles position and scored a 6-0, 6-1 win. Arnal and
Nathalia Valencia both recorded 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in the #2 and #4 singles spots. Cliffe battled out a tiebreak win in the first set then clinched the 2-0 victory with a 6-0 in set two.
Davis & Elkins defaulted the doubles #3, singles #5, and singles #6 matches.
West Liberty will be back on the court Thursday, March 16 at Frostburg State.
