BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's tennis team began its spring season with a dominating 7-0 sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon on the road.
The Hilltoppers picked up a pair of convincing wins in doubles to start the match ahead 1-0. The top duo of
Emma Arnal and
Gemma Cliffe rolled to a 6-2 win, while
Evelina Martirosyan andÂ
Ishika Agarwal posted a 6-0 shutout in the No. 2 slot. Wesleyan defaulted the third doubles match.
Cliffe highlighted the singles rout for the Hilltoppers with a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 3 spot. Martirosyan also scored a shutout, as her opponent retired after falling behind 6-0, 3-0 in the No. 2 position. Arnal won the battle at No. 1 by identical scores of 6-2, thenÂ
Jaqueline Pena-Aceves completed the sweep for West Liberty with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 4 spot. The Bobcats defaulted singles No. 5 and 6.
The Hilltoppers improve to 3-0 on the season and have not lost a match, as they defeated Dominican and Seton Hill 7-0 in the fall.
West Liberty will play its first home match of the season on Friday, February 24 hosting Davis & Elkins inside the Wheeling Park Bubble.
