HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Liberty was able to strike first with a goal in the 25th minute on a goal by Morgan Kost. The scoring opportunity started as Mia Zecca deflected a West Virginia State corner kick to Isabella Aperfine who proceeded to start the breakaway opportunity. At midfield Aperfine found Kost who then outran the defense and placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
- Only six minutes later in the 31st minute, Kost added her second goal of the match as she collected a pass from Jori Alexander and made a move past the Yellow Jacket defender to fire a shot that bounced over the head of the WVSU goalkeeper and into the net.
- West Virginia State cut the West Liberty lead in half in the 61st minute as Maria Amaral placed a pass out in front of Ammy Mwasambu, who was cutting between a pair of WLU defenders at the 18 yard box. Mwasambu then placed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, past Zara Wickert who moved up in the box to defend the play.
- While the Yellow Jackets were unable to get a shot attempt off, Wickert and the Hilltopper defense made multiple stops in the final ten minutes of play when the Yellow Jacket attack reached the 18 yard box.
- Kost recorded her second 2-goal game of the season and third of her career. She becomes the first player in program history to have multiple multi-goal games in a single season, and it was the first multi-goal game for WLU since September 17 against Salem when four players found the back of the net twice.
- West Liberty held the advantage in corner kicks (5-4) and saves (4-3), while West Virginia State held the edge in shots (12-10). The two teams were even with five shots-on-goal apiece in the match.
