Warren, Ohio – After the first day of the MEC Men's and Women's Golf Championships both the West Liberty squads sit in a tie for sixth place. The men shot an opening round of 318 (+30) while the women finished the day 364 (+76).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – WLU MEN'S GOLF

• Derek Graham and Bo Orecchio lead the way for the West Liberty men's golf team as they are tied for 11^th on the individual leaderboard. Graham and Orecchio carded rounds of 77 (+5) on the day, with Graham tallying a pair of birdies.
• Justin Doerr is third among Hilltopper golfers with a first round of 80 (+8), sitting in a tie for 24^th individually.
• Noah Seivertson and Ethan Cook round out the WLU lineup with opening day scores of 84 (+12) and 87 (+15) to be tied for 41^st and 46^th respectively. Seivertson notched a team-high of three birdies, while Cook collected one.

• Erin Shockey leads the way for the West Liberty women's golf team as she is tied for 11^th overall on the individual leaderboard with a season-low round score of 82 (+10). She collected one birdie on the day.
• Alexis Ramby and Sara Simon are both tied for 22^nd overall with an opening round of 89 (+17). Ramby notched one birdie on the day.
• Payton Sherry and Anna Griffith round out the WLU lineup with scores of 104 (+32) and 106 (+34) to end the day 38^th and 39^th overall. Sherry tallied one birdie in the first round. Griffith posted a season-low round total to open the tournament.

The women's golf teams will open the day at Avalon Lake and Country Club at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, with the Hilltoppers teeing off from 8-8:40 a.m. for round two. The men's golf teams will then take the course at 12 p.m., with the WLU golfers teeing off from 12:40-1:30 p.m. for the second round.
