Hilltoppers Set to Celebrate Senior Day Against Frostburg State on Sunday

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's soccer team will honor 13 seniors on Sunday afternoon as they play their final weekend match of the season at the West Family Athletic Complex when they host Frostburg State. The Hilltoppers and Bobcats are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff while the Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:15 p.m. prior to the match.

GAME DETAILS WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters Sunday's match with a record of 5-3-3 (4-3-1 MEC) on the season and is currently tied for fourth in the Mountain East Conference standings with 13 points through eight matches.
  • The Black & Gold held steady at No. 8 for the third consecutive poll in this past week's United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region rankings that were released on Tuesday afternoon.
  • In their last game, WLU was unable to complete the season sweep as they fell at home to Davis & Elkins by a score of 1-0.
  • Mark Donnelly leads West Liberty with four goals on the year while Vitor Otsuka, Jan Goebel, Zachary Forehand, and Oskar Voges have each found the back of the net twice this season.
  • Otsuka is one of six players on the team with an assist and has notched a team-high of six, which remains tied for the lead in the MEC. Goebel, Rhys Lewis, Tim Stickland, Shimon Ichimiya, and Jasper Newton each have one.

Underwood ranks third in the MEC in goals against average, save percentage, total saves, and saves per game (4.70).

  • Sean Regan is in his fifth season as the head coach at West Liberty with a record of 21-44-8 with the Hilltoppers. Overall, he is in his 15th season as a head coach in collegiate men's soccer after spending ten previous seasons at nearby Bethany, he holds a career record of 82-162-20 during his time with the Bison and Hilltoppers.
FROSTBURG STATE STORYLINES
  • Frostburg State enters Sunday's match with a record of 5-8 (2-8 MEC) on the season and is currently seventh in the Mountain East Conference standings with six points through ten matches.
  • The Bobcats enter the match having lost four straight matches, including three consecutive by way of shutout. In their most recent game on Wednesday afternoon, they fell at home by a score of 1-0 to Notre Dame.
  • Carlos Quintero Riva leads the team and is tied for fourth in the MEC with five goals this season, while Alex Retzos (3), Kevin Garcia-Torres (2), and Daniel Medina (2) have all found the back of the net multiple times this season. Quintero Rivas is tied for the league lead with three game-winning goals in 2023.
  • Laki Psallidas is lone Bobcat to record multiple assists this season as he has notched four, putting him in a tie for fifth among the conference leaders.
  • Rivas Quintero is the only FSU player to reach double digit points this season with a team-best of ten (5 goals), while Retzos is second with six points (3 goals).
  • Joel Assal has appeared and started in all 13 matches for Frostburg, totaling 1,147 minutes in goal while making 65 saves with a 0.739 save percentage on 185 shots faced. He holds a 1.80 goals against average to go along with three shutouts this season. He leads the conference with 5.00 saves per game.
