Hilltoppers Conclude Three Match Homestand by Hosting D&E and WVWC

West Liberty, W.Va. – West Liberty looks to snap a 2-match losing streak as they host Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan to round out three consecutive matches inside the ASRC. The Hilltoppers and Senators are set for a 7 p.m. first serve in Friday evening's Dig Pink Match, and the Black & Gold will then host the Bobcats for a 12 p.m. first serve on Saturday afternoon.

  • First Serve: Friday, October 13 (7 P.M.) / Saturday, October 14 (12 P.M.)
  • Promotion: Fans are encouraged to wear pink on Friday night as part of West Liberty's Dig Pink Match, supporting those who have fought, are fighting and are survivors of breast cancer.
WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters the weekend with a record of 14-6 (3-2 MEC) following a 3-0 loss at home to Wheeling on Tuesday evening. The Hilltoppers are tied for second place in the North Division of the Mountain East Conference standings.
  • Through 20 matches this season WLU is hitting .193 while averaging 12.2 kills, 11.3 assists, 1.6 aces, 16.8 digs, and 1.6 blocks per set.
  • As a team, West Liberty ranks within the top-10 of NCAA Division II in four statistical categories, ranking fourth in the country in total digs (1,328) and total attacks (2,864), ninth in total kills (963), and tenth in total assists (890).
  • Katelynn Fritz and Liv McAtee lead the attack for the Black & Gold, totaling 209 and 152 kills on the season and averaging 2.75 and 2.08 kills per set respectively. Riley Cudnik and McAtee have the two highest attack percentages on the team at .284 and .243.
  • Dakoda Keni has been among the top setters in the country throughout the season, having tallied 608 assists which is third in the MEC and is 41st nationally. Keni has the fourth most total assists by a freshman in DII this season and has been averaging 7.70 assists per set.
  • Bella Dart leads the Hilltoppers at the service line, recording 33 service aces on the season which is 42nd in DII and is fourth in the conference. Dart is averaging 0.45 aces per set. Nyia Setla is second on the team, adding 26 aces on the year.
  • Setla, the leader of the West Liberty defense, has collected 391 digs on the season, which leads the MEC and is fourth in NCAA Division II. She is also second in the conference and 31st nationally with 4.95 digs per set.
  • Grace Hill leads the Hilltoppers at the net, totaling 58.0 blocks while ranking fourth in the conference, and is averaging 0.92 blocks per set. Page Gross has added 35.0 blocks and is averaging 0.55 blocks per set.
  • Riley Jarrett is in her fourth season as the head coach at West Liberty with a career record of 63-36 with the Hilltoppers.
DAVIS & ELKINS STORYLINES
  • Davis & Elkins enters the weekend with a record of 1-16 (0-5 MEC) following a 3-0 loss at West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday evening. The Senators are sixth place in the South Division of the Mountain East Conference standings.
  • Through 17 matches this season D&E is hitting .034 while averaging 8.0 kills, 7.4 assists, 1.2 aces, 13.4 digs, and 1.3 blocks per set.
  • The Senator attack is led by Brittany Portley and Reanne DeBose who have 63 and 57 kills on the season and are averaging 1.85 and 2.04 kills per set respectively. Gracjana Rozanska has the highest attack percentage on the team at .139.
  • Simone Daniels has tallied a team-best 247 assists and is ninth in the MEC with an assist per set average of 4.94.
  • Two D&E athletes have reached double digits in service aces this season with Daniels recording 12 while Clara Caralt has added 11.
  • Caralt has been amongst the top defenders in the conference in 2023, ranking sixth with 4.36 digs per set and seventh with 231 total digs on the year.
  • Portley leads the Senators at the net with 21.0 total blocks while Katie Beth Caudill has added 18.0 with a team-best 0.82 blocks per set average.
  • Moneshia McKenney is in her first season as the head coach at Davis & Elkins with a record of 1-16 during her time with the Senators. McKenney is in her third season as a collegiate volleyball head coach with a career record of 10-57 after spending the previous two seasons at LaGrange.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The teams have split the eight matches played since 2010, however West Liberty has won three straight meetings dating back to 2021.
  • In the most recent meeting on October 21, 2022, West Liberty secured a 5-set win on the road in Elkins, West Virginia. Winning the sets by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-27, and 15-10.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN STORYLINES
  • West Virginia Wesleyan enters the weekend with a record of 5-11 (1-5 MEC) following a home sweep of Davis & Elkins on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats are fifth place in the South Division of the Mountain East Conference standings.
  • Through 16 matches this season WVWC is hitting .156 while averaging 10.9 kills, 10.1 assists, 1.5 aces, 12.4 digs, and 1.3 blocks per set.
  • The Bobcat attack is led by Hope Arce-Reed and Emily Denison who have totaled 137 and 102 kills on the season, averaging 2.58 and 2.00 kills per set respectively. Bhrooke Axe has a team-best attack percentage of .215 while Denison is hitting .211 on the year.
  • Sarah McCall leads Wesleyan with 264 assists, averaging 8.52 assists per set in 2023. Sophie Gerlach has also added 122 assists and is averaging 8.13 assists per set.
  • At the service line Alexis Moeschler leads the team with 19 service aces, averaging 0.37 aces per set which is eighth best in the MEC.
  • Autumn Molenhouse leads the West Virginia Wesleyan defense, collecting 190 digs for a 3.52 digs per set average which is tenth in the conference.
  • At the net Axe has notched a team-high of 33.0 blocks while averaging 0.69 blocks per set. Denison has also added 26.0 blocks and 0.51 blocks per set.
  • Nancy Wheeler is in her seventh season as the head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan with a record of 46-125 during her time with the Bobcats. Wheeler is in her 15th season as a collegiate volleyball head coach with a career record of 228-196 after spending the previous eight seasons at Penn State-Fayette.
