Hilltoppers Set for Wednesday Night Match with Davis & Elkins

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's soccer team will look to complete the season sweep of Davis & Elkins on Wednesday evening at the West Family Athletic Complex. The Hilltoppers and Senators are set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in the second game of tomorrow night's doubleheader.

WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters Wednesday's match with a record of 5-2-3 (4-2-1 MEC) on the season and is currently tied for third in the Mountain East Conference standings with 13 points through seven matches.
  • The Black & Gold held steady at No. 8 for the third consecutive poll in this week's United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region rankings.
  • In their last game, WLU battled to their second draw of the season against Salem, tying 2-2 on the road in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

  • Shemar Daley leads the team with four goals on the year, while three of those occurred in a September 17 match against Frostburg State for one of only three hat-tricks in the MEC this season. Johan Magana has found the back of the net three times in 2023.
  • The trio of Daley, Modou Faye, and Dominique Castano are tied for the team lead in assists with two each.
  • Daley has totaled a team-best ten points on the season with four goals and two assists, while Magana is second with seven points off three goals and an assist.
  • Grant Wyles has appeared and started in eight for D&E, totaling 720 minutes in goal while making 31 saves with a 0.756 save percentage on 93 shots faced. He holds a 1.25 goals against average to go along with three shutouts this season.
  • Through nine matches Davis & Elkins' opponents have held the advantage in assists (11-9), shots (104-85), shots-on-goal (50-42), and corner kicks (41-35), while the Senators hold the edge in saves (34-28). The teams have been even with 14 goals apiece.
