Women's Basketball Partners With Keep Wheeling Warm Campaign

1/5/2023 9:45:00 AM

WHEELING, W.Va - West Liberty University's women's basketball team has teamed up with Paree Insurance Centers, Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration, and Walmart at The Highlands to collect coats, gloves and other items to help keep people in the community warm this winter. Donations will benefit a new free store at Youth Services System's headquarters in East Wheeling.

The Keep Wheeling Warm campaign begins with a donation drive on Friday at the Highland's Walmart, where the team will help fill a Panhandle Truck from 10 am to 4 pm.

Then, the team will host an "awareness game" on Saturday against Glenville State at 2 pm inside the ASRC. All who bring a donation will receive a free t-shirt, while supplies last.

Donations will also be accepted at any Paree Insurance location (306 Kruger St. Wheeling, 1213 Lafayette Ave, Moundsville, or 52327 National Road East, St. Clairsville) through Friday.

"We're beyond excited to continue our partnership with YSS, Panhandle, and Paree Insurance Centers as we work to impact our community through the Keep Wheeling Warm Campaign," Head Women's Basketball Coach Kyle Cooper told The Intelligencer. "Our West Liberty women's basketball family is about so much more than just basketball and this initiative is a great example of what it means to give back and serve the community that we're so lucky to have the support of here on the Hilltop."

The YSS' Sophie Moses Free Store is open to the public; call YSS at 304-233-9627 to make a shopping appointment or to make a donation. In addition to coats and gloves, people can also donate warm clothing items, shoes, hygiene items, hand warmers and scarves.
