WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's basketball team picked up its 10th win of the season defeating Alderson Broaddus, 91-75, Wednesday evening inside the ASRC behind a strong fourth quarter performance.
Arriana Manzay recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 10-for-12 from the field to lead the Hilltoppers.
Karly McCutcheon added 17 points with eight coming in the pivotal fourth quarter.
The Battlers (4-12, 3-8) tied the game twice early in the fourth quarter, but West Liberty (10-7, 8-3) was able to hold on and finish strong, never trailing in the second half. McCutcheon scored seven straight points over a minute midway through the final frame to give WLU a seven-point (74-66) lead. Another Hilltopper run of nine straight points from the 3:46-1:40 mark sealed the deal, putting the Black and Gold up 18.
Alderson Broaddus jumped ahead 10-3 three minutes in, but the Hilltoppers scored the final 13 points of the first quarter to take a 19-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
Grace Faulk drained a pair of three pointers on the run and had eight points in the first frame.
The sides went back-and-forth throughout the second and third quarters, as West Liberty maintained a narrow lead. The Hilltoppers owned a four-point edge (40-36) at the half and led by five (62-57) heading to the fourth.
Corinne Thomas and Faulk finished with 10 points apiece for West Liberty. Thomas drained a game-high three triples, as WLU outshot the Battlers 8-1 from beyond the arc. Alderson Broaddus' only make came in the third quarter ending 1-for-12 from deep.
West Liberty went after its misses collecting 14 offensive rebounds, five by Manzay, and turned them into 11 second chance points.
The Hilltoppers continued sharing the rock at an elite level tying a season-high 25 assists on 31 made baskets. It was the seventh game this season WLU has recorded 20 or more assists.
Anna Lucarelli tied her career-high for the fourth time this season dishing out seven.
All 10 Hilltoppers that saw action scored, as the WLU reserves outscored Alderson Broaddus' 28-14.
West Liberty heads to Wheeling on Saturday for a rivalry matchup inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center. Start time is scheduled for 2 pm.
