CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The West Liberty University volleyball team finished its weekend at the Cedarville Invite with a 3-1 record. The Seton Hill Griffins bested the Hilltoppers in four sets this afternoon in the finale.
West Liberty won a thrilling first set to take an early one-set lead after falling behind 17-13 midway through. Six of the next seven points were won by the Hilltoppers, putting them up 19-18. Seton Hill got back in front 23-22, but three consecutive points ended the set in favor of the Black and Gold.
Kirsten Bogunovich made a kill and
Ruby Countryman made the final two, all assisted by
Haley Zeck, for the set win.
The Griffins edged out a pivotal second set by a score of 25-22 to take control of the match. Seton Hill went on to win sets three and four, 25-10 and 25-19 respectively.
Bogunovich and Countryman recorded 11 kills to lead the Hilltoppers. Zeck set them up by posting a match-high 30 assists. Countryman added four blocks to lead the defense.
West Liberty will play its home opener on Tuesday night at the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex. First serve for the battle against Pitt-Johnstown is scheduled for 6 pm.
