Men's Soccer Edged Out by Alderson Broaddus, 2-1

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's soccer team lost a tough battle to Alderson Broaddus, 2-1, tonight at West Family Athletic Complex.

The Hilltoppers (2-6-2, 2-5-1) jumped ahead early with a 21st minute goal by Jamie Redmond. Joseph Fonagy earned the assist after dishing the ball ahead to Redmond on a fast break. One-on-one with the Battler keeper, Redmond kicked it in for his first goal of the season.

Alderson Broaddus (2-6-2, 2-5-1) netted the equalizer in the 38th minute and then took the lead in the 63rd minute.

The equalizer was a similar play as Redmond's goal as the Battler's Derek Reyes leaked ahead of the 'Topper defense to score. Then, a snipe shot to the top left corner of the goal from the opposite side of the box by Angel De Avila put them ahead.

WLU outshot Alderson Broaddus 13-9 overall, but the Battlers were able to put nine of their eight on net, while the Hilltoppers shot just five on goal. Daniel Rovira led all players in the match with four shots.

Noah Underwood started and played all 90 minutes between the posts for West Liberty making six saves.

Each team recorded three yellow cards in the match. Alderson Broaddus was charged with 13 fouls and the Hilltoppers were whistled for nine.

West Liberty will be back in action on Saturday when they host Charleston at West Family Athletic Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
