Women's Soccer Defeated by Wheeling

WHEELING, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's soccer team allowed a season-high 25 shots and suffered a 3-0 loss at Wheeling University this evening in the battle for Ohio County.

Every opening the Cardinals saw they took their chance no matter where they were on the pitch. 12 of the 25 shots went on goal for the Red and Black.

Wheeling got on the board first with a 23rd minute goal rifled in from nearly 30 yards out by Cardinal sharpshooter Kenadee Burgoyne, who came into the match second in the MEC in shots per game.

West Liberty fired off 9 nine shots, the most without a goal this season. Only two were on goal, both in the first half and both saved by the Cardinal keeper.

Amelia Compston charted a team-high three shots and put one on goal. Zayne Brakeall had the only other on-goal shot for the Black and Gold.

Insurance goals two and three came in the 53rd and 76th minute for Wheeling. First a header off a corner kick then another 30-yard snipe.

West Liberty wraps up its three-game road stretch with a trip to Notre Dame on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
