PHILIPPI, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 match to Alderson Broaddus on the road this evening. The Hilltoppers had five shots on goal in the last ten minutes, but could not get past the Battler goalkeeper.
West Liberty applied pressure throughout with eight shots in each half and 10 total on goal.Â
The Battlers scored on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 35th minute, placing it perfectly to the top right corner of the goal.
After a 10-shot first half, the Hilltopper defense held Alderson Broaddus to just five in the second half.
In the final minute of the match,
Vitor Otsuka ripped a free kick destined for the net, but the Battler keeper made a diving save to secure the win. Otsuka was one of six Hilltoppers with two shots and led the team with two shots on goal.
Noah Underwood made eight saves in net to keep the Black and Gold in contention.
It was another physical match with 21 fouls and seven cards handed out. WLU was whistled for 12 and AB nine while four cards went against the Battlers and three against the Hilltoppers.
West Liberty will be off for a week before its next road trip to Buckhannon to play West Virginia Wesleyan.
