PHILIPPI, W.Va. -
Rileigh Gualtiere scored two goals to lift the West Liberty University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory this afternoon at Alderson Broaddus.
The Hilltoppers improve to 1-0-1 in Mountain East Conference play and 2-1-1 overall with the win.
Gualtiere got the scoring started with a 29th minute goal. The Battler keeper knocked a Hilltopper centering pass away but Gualtiere was right there to get the rebound and knock it in from 10 yards out for her first goal of the season.
Alderson Broaddus evened the score at the 39 minute mark with a goal and the teams went to the halftime break tied at one.
West Liberty got the second half goal from Gualtiere with a close-range shot following a free kick in the 67th minute. The sophomore was a perfect 2-for-2 on shot attempts today.
The defense was able to hold strong and maintain the lead through the final horn.
The Hilltoppers outshot AB in both halves, totaling a 13-8 overall and 6-4 on goal shot advantage.
Zara Wickert played the full game in net and made three saves for the Black and Gold.
West Liberty returns home for a match against Frostburg State on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 6 pm from West Family Athletic Complex.
