WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty men's soccer team will play its home opener tomorrow under the lights at West Family Athletic Complex against Concord. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

The Hilltoppers are coming off a tough season opening loss to the No. 2 ranked team in the country, Charleston. They will look to get their first ball to the back of the net in front of the home crowd tomorrow, as they could only leg two shots against the Golden Eagles. The defense hung with Charleston and kept them without a shot on goal for nearly the entire second half before an 89th minute goal to make it 3-0. Noah Underwood intercepted crosses and made six saves while playing all 90 minutes in net.

Concord enters the match with back-to-back identical 2-2 draws in its first two matches of the season. Three of the team's four goals have come in the second half, with the lone being a penalty kick in the ninth minute vs. Frostburg State.

West Liberty will look to get its first home opening win since the program restarted in 2018. Last season, WLU dropped a 3-0 match to then #1 Charleston. Once before Concord was the home opening guests, that came in 2019 and the Mountain Lions took the match 2-0.

All time the Hilltoppers lead the series 4-1, with their lone loss coming in that 2019 matchup. In 2021, the Hilltoppers completed a season sweep of Concord with two 2-0 victories.
