SALEM, Va. – With heavy rains and possible severe storms in the forecast for much of the western Virginia region over the next two days, the Mountain East Conference has made significant changes to the schedule for this weekend's MEC Softball Tournament.
All four fields at the Moyer Sports Complex will be pressed into action as Friday's four opening-round games have been moved up to 9 a.m. starts. According to a release from the MEC office, "it is crucial to the completion of the event for all teams to play at least one contest on Friday ... this is the best strategy we have based on the (current) weather information."
West Liberty's two-time defending MEC Tournament champions will now play West Virginia State at 9 a.m. on Field 3 in a mutual opener. The winner will remain on Field 3 to play an 11 a.m. winner's bracket game against the winner of the opening round game between Davis & Elkins and Fairmont State. The West Liberty-West Virginia State loser will play the Davis & Elkins-Fairmont State loser in a 1 p.m. elimination game on Field One.
The MEC will provide live video streams for all games played on Field One and Field Three and will have live state available for all games, regardless of venue. Schedule updates and other pertinent information will be shared across all of the conference's social media platforms along with the MEC's Championship Central home page.
