Hilltoppers Drop Doubleheader at Frostburg State, Turn Attention to Fairmont State

FROSTBURG, Md. – The West Liberty University softball team came up short in both games of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader on Friday, falling 8-0 and 8-4 to Frostburg State.

The Hilltoppers (9-19, 3-7 MEC) will look to bounce back quickly as they travel to Fairmont State for another conference doubleheader on Saturday.

Game 1: Frostburg State 8, West Liberty 0 (5 innings)

Frostburg State used timely hitting and a strong pitching performance to take the opener in five innings.

The Bobcats got on the board in the second inning on a solo home run from Ally Myers and extended the lead with a three-run third inning. Frostburg added insurance runs in the fourth and broke the game open with a four-run fifth.

West Liberty was limited to just two hits in the contest, coming from Paytyn Tucker and Jillian Morr.

Rylee Mangold (3-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) over four innings, while Annaliese Davis was tagged for four runs in relief.

Game 2: Frostburg State 8, West Liberty 4

The Hilltoppers showed more offensive life in game two but couldn't overcome a big inning from the Bobcats.

Frostburg jumped out early with a three-run home run in the first before West Liberty got on the board in the fifth on a solo shot from Heavenlee Pall.

Trailing 3-1, Frostburg responded with a five-run fifth inning to extend the lead to 8-1.

West Liberty continued to battle, plating two runs in the sixth on an RBI groundout from Isabella McKee and an RBI double by Jaden Conrad. Sara Simon capped the scoring in the seventh with a solo home run.

Simon led the Hilltoppers with two hits and scored twice, while Pall and Conrad each drove in a run.

Ashlyn Tapman (1-6) took the loss in the start, with Kadence Pettit providing relief in the circle.
