Crucial WLU Softball Make-Up Game Set for Monday

4/30/2022 10:19:00 PM

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team will make up a postponed regular season game against Glenville State on Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at the WLU Softball Complex.
The Mountain East Conference ruled late Saturday night that the game would have to be played in order to determine the final North Division standings heading into next week's MEC Tournament. The game was originally scheduled as Game Two of a doubleheader at West Liberty on April 11 but had to be postponed due to rain.
The MEC North Division race went down to the final day of the regular season on Saturday with Frostburg State splitting a doubleheader with West Virginia State to finish with a 22-10 league mark. The Hilltoppers closed out the regular season on a 7-game winning streak, including a doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame on Saturday. That pushed WLU's conference record to 21-10, necessitating Monday's make-up game.
According to MEC Sports Guidelines, if West Liberty and Frostburg State finish in a tie for first place in the North Division, they would be recognized as co-champions. Tiebreaking procedures would then be applied to determine the seeding for the MEC Tournament, which is scheduled to get under way on Friday in Salem, Va.
The West Liberty University athletic department will provide complete video live stream and live stats coverage for Monday's make-up game at www.hilltoppersports.com.
