HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team opened its Spring Break week at Hilton Head on Sunday with a 7-0 shutout of Chowan (N.C.).
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (2-0) didn't lose a set in breezing to the shutout win against the short-handed Hawks (0-2), who had only four players available for the match.
Emma Arnal and
Daria Shchoma rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles and the duo of
Gemma Cliffe and
Evelina Martirosyan matched that 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles to earn the doubles point.
Martirosyan and Arnal notched straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, with
Nathalia Valencia winning at No. 3 singles and Jacqueline Pena-Aceves prevailing at No. 4 singles to end the match.
The Hilltoppers return to the Hilton Head courts on Monday for a match with Lewis (Ill.).
