PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 9-0 score here Saturday night in a non-conference match against No. 11-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
The nationally-ranked Tartans (10-4) took control early against Coach
Heather Gallagher's youthful Hilltoppers (6-3) by sweeping all three doubles matches and never looked back.
Emma Arnal and
Daria Shchoma fell by an 8-3 tally at No. 1 doubles with
Gemma Cliffe and
Evelina Martirosyan dropping an 8-2 decision in the No. 2 slot. Jacquelina Pena-Aceves and
Nathalia Valencia pushed CMU's No. 3 tandem of Zoe Angell and Simran Bedi to the brink only to lose by an 8-6 count.
Carnegie Mellon won all six singles matches in straight sets.
The West Liberty women return to Mountain East Conference action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. match against Fairmont State at the Washington Park courts in Washington, Pa.
