PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 9-0 score here Saturday night in a non-conference match against No. 11-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
The nationally-ranked Tartans (10-4) took control early against Coach Heather Gallagher's youthful Hilltoppers (6-3) by sweeping all three doubles matches and never looked back.
Emma Arnal and Daria Shchoma fell by an 8-3 tally at No. 1 doubles with Gemma Cliffe and Evelina Martirosyan dropping an 8-2 decision in the No. 2 slot. Jacquelina Pena-Aceves and Nathalia Valencia pushed CMU's No. 3 tandem of Zoe Angell and Simran Bedi to the brink only to lose by an 8-6 count.
Carnegie Mellon won all six singles matches in straight sets.
