WASHINGTON, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team powered its way to a 9-0 shutout of Washington & Jefferson here Tuesday in a non-conference match at the Swanson Tennis Center.
    Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (4-2) were never threatened by the host Presidents (7-4), sweeping the three doubles matches to take the doubles point and following that up with a clean sweep of the singles matches – all in straight sets.
    The No. 1 doubles tandem of Emma Arnal and Evelina Martirosyan breezed to a 6-1 victory while Gemma Cliffe and Daria Shchoma (No. 2 doubles) and Jacqueline Pena-Aceves and Nathalia Valencia (No. 3 doubles) each posted 6-0 shutout wins before moving into singles play.
    The singles matches ended almost before they started. Arnal coasted to a 6-0 6-3 win at No. 1 singles with Martirosyan, Valencia, Cliffe, Pena-Aceves and Shchoma all racking up 6-0 6-0 sweeps to finish off the match.
    The Hilltoppers return to Mountain East Conference action on Saturday with a noon match against West Virginia Wesleyan.
