CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Another 20-win season and first place in the Mountain East Conference are on the line this afternoon as No. 5 West Liberty takes its one-game lead on the road to the University of Charleston. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. inside Wehrle Arena.
A Hilltopper win today would make it 17 consecutive full seasons of 20-plus wins for the Black and Gold. West Liberty went 18-5 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in last year's COVID-shortened campaign.
Coach
Ben Howlett's Hilltoppers (19-2, 13-2) are coming off a thrilling 96-84 victory against West Virginia State on Wednesday.
Bryce Butler stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals to lead four double-figure scorers as WLU snapped the Yellowjackets' 10-game winning streak.
The Golden Eagles (16-4, 12-3) breezed to an 86-70 win at Wheeling on Wednesday. Shunta Wilson's 15 points topped five double-figure scorers as Charleston shot just under 60 percent from the floor on the night.
