WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team opened its Mountain East Conference schedule with a 7-0 shutout of Frostburg State in a Saturday night match at Wheeling Park.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers didn't lose a set in singles or doubles in an impressive spring season opener.
West Liberty lost a total of just four games in sweeping its way to the doubles point.
Emma Arnal and
Evelina Martirosyan combined for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles while
Gemma Cliffe and
Daria Shchoma were pitching a 6-0 shutout in the No. 2 slot.
Katie Loader and
Elysia Beynon prevailed by a 6-2 count at No. 3 doubles.
It was more of the same in singles play as WLU dominated throughout. Arnal, Martirosyan and Cliffe breezed to straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles, respectively.
Nathalia Valencia carved out a 6-1 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles with Jacqueline Pena-Aceves doing the same at No. 5 singles.
Ishika Agarwal didn't lose a game in a 6-0 6-0 rout at No. 6 singles.
The Hilltoppers won't be back on the court until March 7 when they head to Hilton Head, S.C. to compete in a Spring Break Tournament.
