WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University baseball team has announced its schedule for the 2023 season.
Led by 11th-year head coach
Eric Burkle, the Hilltoppers will be home for 16 games, featuring seven Mountain East Conference doubleheaders at The Pit. The season begins in Tennessee for the second straight year, taking on Union University in a four-game set on February 10 and 11th.
The Union twin bills kick off a string of seven non-conference road doubleheaders to start the season. Four game series with Malone and Pitt-Johnstown on consecutive weekends and a two-game matchup at Shepherd set the 'Toppers up for the MEC opener.
The roadtrip to start the season continues with the beginning of conference play on March 18 at West Virginia State. West Liberty will stay in the area and travel down I-64 to take on Charleston the following day.
A single-nine at Seton Hill finishes the 19-game road stretch to start the year. The long awaited return to The Pit is set for the weekend of March 25 and 26. Doubleheaders versus Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan open the home slate.
A quick weekend on the road at Glenville State and Concord precedes the Hilltoppers longest homestand of the season. Single nines against non-conference opponents Shepherd and California (Pa) bookend the six-game home stretch, with Frostburg State coming to town for four games on April 8 and 9.
Alternating home and away weekends at Alderson Broaddus, versus Notre Dame, and at Fairmont State sets up the finale against crosstown rival Wheeling.Â
The Hilltoppers will split a pair of weekend doubleheaders home and away with Wheeling to finish the regular season on May 5 and 7.
All Mountain East Conference contests are 7-inning doubleheaders. The annual conference tournament is set for May 11-14 and will feature the top three teams from each division determined by conference winning percentage.
