WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty's
Nyia Setla has been named an All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA). The Hilltoppers' libero earned a third team All-America selection in the D2CCA release this morning.
Setla played in all 24 matches and 122 sets for the Black and Gold this fall at the libero position. She ranked third in Division II in both total digs (707) and digs per set (5.80) commanding the back line for West Liberty to help lead the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
The sophomore from Northville, Mich. posted five matches with 30+ digs including a season-high 38 in the home match against Charleston, which was the most in a four-set match by an MEC player and tied for fifth most in the nation. Setla had double-digit digs in every match except one and had 20+ in half of the team's 34 outings.
Setla becomes just the second All-American in program history with this selection. She was also selected first team All-Region by the D2CCA and the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In addition to the regional honors, Setla was named the Mountain East Conference Libero of the Year and first team all-conference. She earned MEC Player of the Week three times this season and is the only player from the conference on the D2CCA All-America list that featured a total of 21 student-athletes from 19 institutions over three teams.
