WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The nationally-ranked West Liberty University wrestling team is set to get its season started in one week at Pitt-Johnstown.
There is no easing into the season as West Liberty opens up against two top 25 teams, Pitt-Johnstown (#11) and Lake Erie (#21).
The Hilltoppers are slated to host six events inside the Academic, Sports, and Recreation Center, including the Mountain East Conference Championships on January 28.
The home opener is scheduled for November 10 against #21 Lake Erie College and then the Black and Gold will be on the road for four straight meets. The four-meet road stretch features stops at the Adrian Duals, Findlay Open, Carolina Clash Duals, and Little State Invite ranging four different states.Â
West Liberty comes back home on December 11 and 16 for a dual against Findlay followed by the Hilltopper Duals before the buses get loaded again for a trek to Louisville, Ky. to compete in the National Duals on January 6 and 7.
Following the National Duals, WLU makes trips to Ashland University and the Spartan Mat Classic in Indiana. Glenville State and Notre Dame College visit the hilltop on January 19 to take part in the West Liberty Duals.
The Wabash and John Summa Invitationals along with MEC opponent Davis & Elkins play host to the Hilltoppers on January 21, February 4, and February 10. The regular season wraps up at home on February 12, as WLU hosts the Coach Monseau Invitational.Â
"I am really thankful for the university and the people in and around our program to allow us to put the schedule together that we have," said Head Coach
Danny Irwin.
With eyes set on another deep postseason run, the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 Championships are scheduled for February 25 in Tiffin, Ohio, then the national championships will be March 11 and 12 in Cedar Rapids, IA.
