WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's soccer team battled West Virginia Wesleyan to a 1-1 draw this afternoon at West Family Athletic Complex.
Each side scored a mere seconds apart in an action-packed 62nd minute.
Jamie Redmond found
Daniel Rovira on the edge of the box and Rovira struck it past the Bobcat keeper for his third goal of the season and the Hilltopper lead. The advantage was short lived, as Wesleyan netted a header 21 seconds later off a free kick, which followed a 'Topper yellow card.
It was a physical match from start to finish, 36 fouls were whistled with 20 of them against the visitors. The Bobcats also were charged with three yellow cards, while West Liberty was handed two. All five cards came in the second half.
The Hilltoppers successfully defended 11 corner kicks and 13 of the 14 Wesleyan shot attempts.
Noah Underwood manned the goal making seven saves.
West Liberty was held to six shots and just two on net, both by Rovira. The Bobcats stopped a pair of corner kicks and a free kick, which saw
Cormac McGinley's shot go off the crossbar, in the final minutes to hold the tie.
Men's soccer alumni were honored at halftime in recognition of the 50th anniversary from the initial start of the West Liberty program.
The Black and Gold will hit the road for the final time this regular season on Wednesday. West Liberty travels to nationally ranked Davis & Elkins for a 7 pm kickoff.
