ELKINS, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's soccer team went on the road tonight for the final time in the regular season and dropped a 7-1 decision at nationally-ranked Davis & Elkins.
Mason Marnell scored his first career goal to put West Liberty on the board in the 78th minute, but it was too little too late for the Hilltoppers.
Micah Mitchell dished the ball back to a wide-open Marnell, who rifled it inside the left post for the score.
The Senators got started early and often, scoring in the 12th and 13th minute to quickly jump up 2-0. Davis & Elkins built the lead to 6-0 before the Marnell goal and tacked on another in the 85th minute.
D&E outshot the Hilltoppers 28-3. All three went on goal, with two coming from Marnell and
Rhys Lewis charting the other.
West Liberty will take on Wheeling in a playoff-deciding match on Saturday at West Family Athletic Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
