WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - A pair of late headers gave the West Liberty University women's soccer team a 2-0 win over Glenville State this evening at West Family Athletic Complex.
The Hilltoppers had their most shots in a conference match this season with 16 tonight, but were kept out of the net until their 14th shot in the 65th minute.
Isabella Bankovich sent a free kick into the box and
Maya Taggart leaped up for the header sending it inside the left post for the first score of her career.
Rileigh Gualtiere added an insurance goal, her third of the season, eight minutes later.
Isabella Aperfine drew two defenders and found
Abigail Barki on the edge of the box, who took a dribble and lofted the ball over the Pioneer defense to Gualtiere to finish it off with a header right past the keeper.
West Liberty had seven shots in the first half, but the Pioneer keeper stepped up time and time again making four saves along with multiple diving stops to end fast breaks for WLU.
Five players ended the night with multiple shots, led by Aperfine with three. The Black and Gold controlled the time of possession and created eight corner kicks, tying a season high.
Zara Wickert recorded her second clean sheet of her young college career, totaling three saves.
West Liberty will be back on the home turf on Sunday to take on West Virginia Wesleyan. Kickoff from West Family Athletic Complex is scheduled for 1 pm.
