BECKLEY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's soccer team scored three first half goals and it proved to be enough, as they took down Concord, 3-1, on the road this evening.
The Hilltoppers took advantage of their opportunities, netting scores on three of their five shots on goal.
Joseph Fonagy continued his success after a two-goal performance on Wednesday, by starting the scoring today with a header in the 17th minute off a beautiful centering pass from
Kaliki Mupeta.Â
West Liberty took control of the match after firing in two goals in a two minute span later in the first half.
Vitor Otsuka dribbled down the middle of the pitch and ripped a shot that deflected off a defender and into the net in the 31st minute.
Daniel Rovira was quickly back at it for the Black and Gold outracing his defender to a play ahead from midfield and legged it in stride from the top of the box, just under the crossbar to send WLU into the break up 3-0.
The Mountain Lions were able to get one back in the 59th minute, but
Noah Underwood and the 'Topper defense fended off 16 shots and 14 corner kicks to secure the win. Underwood ended the match with 10 saves.
West Liberty will be idle until next Sunday when West Virginia Wesleyan visits the hilltop. Kickoff from West Family Athletic Complex is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
