    BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University athletic department's academic success was recognized by the Mountain East Conference on Thursday when the league announced its MEC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2021-22 fall semester.
    A total of 64 WLU student-athletes were named to the MEC's All-Academic Team with fall semester GPAs of 3.70 or higher. In addition, 34 Hilltoppers earned recognition on the Commissioner's Honor Roll after posting GPAs ranging from 3.25 through 3.69.
    This is the sixth year for the MEC's academic awards program, which honors the commitment of its student-athletes to maintaining a high level of academic success while their sport is in season. The Hilltoppers' 98 total honorees and 64 MEC All-Academic Team selections once again led all public universities in the conference.
    The honors come as no surprise on the hilltop as the WLU athletic department posted a combined 3.17 GPA for all of its nearly 500 student-athletes during the fall semester. It was the seventh straight semester that West Liberty's student-athletes had achieved a combined GPA of 3.00 or higher with 15 of the university's 18 intercollegiate sports posting team GPAs of 3.00 or better.
    The MEC's fall sports awards include all student-athletes competing in football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and volleyball.
    More than 1,000 student-athletes from the MEC institutions competing in those sports this fall earned academic honors. Here's a sport-by-sport list of West Liberty's 98 MEC academic honorees:
