WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. –
Kaelyn Oskin scored one goal and assisted on the other here Saturday to lead West Liberty past Fairmont State, 2-1, in a key Mountain East Conference North Division women's soccer match at the West Family Athletic Complex.
Coach
Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (3-2-1, 2-1-1) found themselves on the comeback trail early in the match as the Falcons (2-3-0, 2-2-0) drew first blood on a Kiera Kuzinski goal in the 14th minute.
Oskin equalized for the hosts in the 30th minute, weaving her way through traffic to finish from inside the 6-yard box, and the teams settled for a 1-1 deadlock at halftime.
West Liberty went ahead to stay in the 54th minute. Oskin made a great run into the left side of the box, launching a heavy left-footed blast that slammed off the crossbar. A hustling Bella Aperfine knocked home the rebound and the Hilltopper defense took care of the rest.
West Liberty finished with a 10-9 advantage in shots with goalkeeper
Olivia Montgomery making four saves to earn the win in net.
The Hilltopper women welcome Ohio County rival Wheeling to the West Family Athletic Complex on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match.
